Described as Britain’s hardest working stand-up comedian, bringing her unique brand of humour and breathtaking vocals, Pauline Daniels is guaranteed to have you rolling in the aisles with laughter!
As seen on Calendar Girls The Musical by Gary Barlow & Tim Firth, The Comedians, Shirley Valentine, Bread, Brookside, The Street, Central TV, Saturday Royal, Wogan, Radio Merseyside and Ricky Tomlinson’s Laughter Show.
She brings her show Get Me Before The Crematorium Does to Wrexham Comedy Festival this September, we sat down with her to find out more…
We are so excited to have you at Wrexham Comedy Festival. Have you every performed in Wrexham/North Wales before?
I have worked many times in Wrexham at various clubs over my 44 years in the business and always found the audiences to be a great bunch as is all of North Wales.
What can we expect from your show?
Well, hopefully lots of laughs, truths, music and entertainment.
It’s got a unique title, how did that come about?
I was asked to do a tour just before the pandemic hit and I was calling it the “Where’s My Bloody Pension” tour because I was one of the women who unfortunately missed out at 60 and then we had the pandemic, I turned 66 and got my pension so I thought well, what comes after your pension? The Crematorium so hence the title.
What has been your most memorable performance, whether good or bad, and why?
There have been so many memorable performances but I suppose I really must say working at the London Palladium, starring in the West End as Mae West and of course playing the best role ever written for a woman, Shirley Valentine but there have been so many great times I all of my years.
What is it about performing live that you love so much?
There is nothing in the world like a live performance, you don’t know what’s going to happen and you have no idea who is in your audience, so its an adventure, albeit sometimes very scary but that’s what keeps you on your toes and being able to think on your feet is a great advantage with a live performance.
What’s something audience might not know about you?
After so many years and so many performances I would be surprised if there’s anything the audience don’t know about me, I have laid myself bare from day one on stage and that can be sad but very funny too.
Any advice to people wanting to get into comedy or are early on in their careers?
Be truthful to yourself, talk about what you know, study the greats and your favourites, look at the bad ones and learn, make every day a school day.
And finally, what’s on the cards for the rest of the year/2025?
I have already got a busy year, I am lucky to be able to travel the world on cruises making people laugh as well as holiday hotels and although there aren’t many clubs left there is always something new around the corner, thank god. The minute I stop making people and myself laugh, I will retire, but I am certainly not ready yet and I` have 69 years of life to call upon for material, next year I will be 70 but I’m not letting that stop me.
